스윙스 업그레이드 앨범 시리즈들은 스윙스가 16년간 만들어온 작품들이다. 언제나 다방면으로 발전을 해오는 것을 좋아하는 그였고, 최근에 성공한 다이어트를 통해, AP Alchemy의 성공적인 설립을 통해, 언더에서 메이저 아티스트로서의 오랜 활동 등을 통해 자주 증명해 왔다고 볼 수 있다. 이번 앨범은 업그레이드 5라고 제목을 지은 이유도 여러 가지다. 피네이션이라는 메이저 회사에 아티스트로서 계약을 한 지 어느덧 만 3년이 지났음에도 스윙스는 앨범을 단 한 장도 내놓지 못한 상황이었다. 기다릴수록 부담감은 커져가는 법이다. 아티스트로서 이렇게 오랜 시간이나 활동을 안 한 적도 스윙스의 긴 17년 중 처음이다. 많은 의심과 실망도 분명히 받아오고 있다. 또 스윙스의 경력과 함께 올라간 것은 그의 실제 나이인데, 매우 영한 에너지를 중요시하는 힙합이라는 장르 내에서, 3년이나 활동이 없던 스윙스는 영한 에너지를 여전히 뿜을 수 있을지 또 의심을 받아오고 있었다. 그렇기에 더더욱 정면 승부를 펼치는 것이 가장 깔끔한 복귀가 아닐까. 새로운 사운드, 매우 오랜만에 돌아오는 새로운 앨범, 새 회사, 코로나 이후, 쇼미더머니 등 힙합을 받쳐주는 메이저 방송들이 다 내려간 이후, 이 새로운 시대. 여기서 또 한 번 가치를 증명해야 하기에 도전적인 앨범명을 선택한 것이다.
17년 경력 중 인지도로서만 따져도 가장 높은 시기인 만큼, 이번 앨범은 스윙스 커리어 중 가장 중요한 앨범이 될 것이다.
