2023년 11월, 정규 2집 [POWER ANDRE 99]의 모든 수록곡을 동명의 단독 공연에서 최초로 공개하며 실리카겔만의 새로운 방식으로 정규 앨범 발매 소식을 알렸다. 발매 전부터 모두의 예측을 벗어난 다양한 시도들은 대중의 기대감을 더욱 증폭시켰다.
 
특히 이번 앨범은 지난 2016년 발매한 정규 1집 [실리카겔] 이후 7년 만에 선보이는 정규 앨범으로, 오직 실리카겔만이 들려줄 수 있는 18개의 다채로운 음악을 완성도 있게 담아냈고 대중이 기대했던 것 이상을 충족시킬 것이다. 이제는 밴드신에서 대체 불가한 고유명사로 자리 잡은 이들이 정규 2집을 통해 보여줄 눈부신 활약과 성장은 물론, 앞으로 얼마나 더 새롭고 다양한 음악으로 대중들을 매료시킬지 기대하게 만드는 앨범이다.
 
정규 2집 [POWER ANDRE 99]는 싱글 [Mercurial]부터 시작된 Machine Boy의 정체를 찾아 나선 실리카겔의 원대한 여정의 종착지이다. 앨범을 처음부터 끝까지 순서대로 들어본다면 과연 실리카겔이 찾아낸 Machine Boy가 무엇이었는지, POWER ANDRE 99는 무엇인지 마침내 알게 될 것이다.
 
 
모험을 떠나고 싶다는 오랜 꿈이 있다. 예를 들면 이런 거다. 평범한 삶을 영위하던 어느 날, 얼굴도 이름도 모르는 낯선 이가 찾아와 손을 내밀며 다짜고짜 묻는다. ‘나랑 모험을 떠나지 않을래?’ 그 설레는 제안을 언제든 받아들일 수 있도록 몸과 마음의 준비를 평생 해왔건만, 기회는 좀처럼 찾아오지 않았다. 실리카겔의 정규 2집 [POWER ANDRE 99]는 이제 나이를 먹어 상상력도 증발하고 안정된 삶에도 적당히 적응해 버린 한때의 혹은 현역 모험 워너비들의 영혼을 하나씩 깨우러 다니는 인도자 같은 앨범이다. 첫 곡 ‘On Black’부터 마지막 곡 ‘PH-1004’까지 퀘스트를 깨는 것처럼 듣고 나면, 어느새 어릴 적 꿈꾸던 모험 한복판에 서 있는 나를 발견할 수 있을 것이다. 치밀하고 광폭하게, 무엇보다 용감하게. / 김윤하 (음악 평론가)
