몬스타엑스의 첫 유닛 셔누X형원이 완벽한 합을 선보인다. 

'THE UNSEEN'은 몬스타엑스 데뷔 이후 8년 만에 유닛을 결성한 셔누X형원의 첫 번째 미니앨범으로 보컬, 퍼포먼스, 비주얼 면에서 두 사람 만의 특별한 시너지를 담았다. 메인 댄서와 프로듀서, 보컬리스트로 활약하며 쌓아온 각자의 역량은 이번 유닛에서 다채로운 매력으로 드러난다. 그리고 두 사람의 '닮은 듯 다른' 하나의 퍼포먼스는 색다른 경험을 선사할 것이다. 

‘THE UNSEEN’은 타인의 시선 속 존재하는 수많은 ‘나’를 맞이하는 셔누X형원의 시선이 담겨있다. 현실에서 보여지는 나의 말과 행동, 그리고 그 모습을 받아들이는 사람에 따라 달라지는 ‘시선’, 사람들은 ‘나’를 해석해 또 다른 ‘나’를 만든다. 수많은 시선 속 ‘나’. 때로는 진짜 내 모습이 무엇인지 헷갈릴 때도 있지만 타인의 시선 속 나의 모습 또한 '나'였음을, 네가 사랑하는 너만의 '나' 역시 내 모습이었음을, 기꺼이 사랑하는 너만의 내가 되기 위한 셔누X형원의 사랑 방식이 담긴 앨범이다.

내가 보는 너, 네가 보는 나 'Love Me A Little'

사람들은 현실에서 보여지는 나의 말과 행동을 토대로 '나'를 해석해 또 다른 '나'를 만든다. '나'와 관계를 맺고 있는 사람들에게 '나'는 어떤 얼굴, 어떤 사람으로 존재하고 있을까. 세상에는 얼마나 많은 '나'(내)가 존재하고 있을까.

셔누X형원은 '낯선 사람들과 맺는 관계, 그 속에 존재하는 서로에 대한 믿음과 확신'에 대해 노래한다. 이러한 관계성에 대한 의문을 느낌표로 바꾸는 과정은 닮은 듯 다른 셔누X형원의 팀워크를 통해 새롭게 재해석 됐다. 

타이틀곡 'Love Me A Little'은 내 본연의 모습과 상대방이 원하는 나의 모습 사이에서 갈등하는 마음을 그린 곡으로, 두 멤버의 섬세하고도 엣지있는 보컬과 퍼포먼스가 깊은 인상을 남긴다. 특히 형원이 직접 타이틀곡 프로듀싱을 맡아 중독성 강하면서도 다채로운 매력을 담아 셔누X형원만의 스타일로 표현했고, 셔누 역시 안무팀 프리마인드와 함께 직접 퍼포먼스에 참여해 완성도를 한층 높인다.

뮤직비디오는 끝없이 늘어나는 다른 모습의 수많은 '나'와 마주하며 서사를 이끈다. 다양한 상황 속 자신의 모습을 그려내며 생생한 리얼리티와 몽환적인 판타지의 매력을 전달하는 동시에 여러 관점에서의 무한한 시선에 대한 수용과 부정을 다양한 각도에서 표현하며, 본연의 '나'의 모습에 대한 끝없는 갈망과 고뇌의 과정을 그리는 셔누X형원의 모습은 곡의 몰입을 돕는다. 타인이 바라는 모습의 나, 현재 지금의 나의 모습, 일상 속 수많은 사람들과 스치는 나의 모습, 편견과 오해 속에 갇힌 나의 모습 등을 통해 나 다운 진짜의 내 모습을 찾는 과정을 그렸다. 

셔누X형원의 매력적인 교집합은 앨범 전체에 녹아든다. 두 사람의 담백하고도 애절한 보컬이 매력적인 Hybrid Pop 스타일의 'Love Therapy', 독특한 구성이 인상적인 형원의 또 다른 자작곡 'Roll With Me', 상대방에 대한 애증 어린 묘한 감정을 그려낸 'Play Me', 감미로운 보이스가 돋보이는 ‘Slow Dance’까지, 두 사람은 몬스타엑스 때와는 색다른 음악으로 보다 더 단단하게 자신들의 세계를 구축했다.
